If it was a Gardner engine is it not rather unusual to have the exhaust coming out the side and not at the stern.

There is a bit more on this boat on a thread on the new Buckie Fishing Heritage Forum - especially the engine japottinger . I'm sure most of the info came from ally's dad (you have to scroll down a bit)
