ally - any idea of the year that was taken? They\'ve got to be scaffies!! Can anyone elaborate on what appears to be a winch mounted on the stern of the boat unloading?

look like scaffies, by the stemposts. As for winch, think it\'ll be a hand powered \"Iron Man\", introduced in the 1840s.

Thanks for that grahamtowa. Can\'t be too many pics like that of an ironman in existence. Ally does it again. Also notice the 3 distinctive styles of the Name & No. signwriting - maybe each yard kept some individuality here as well? I\'ve been readin & lookin at old pics & reckon this was taken late 1880\'s or early 1890\'s.

Contrast the setup on these sailboats, which is probably taken at Buckie, to the setup on those taken at Fraserburgh - and the seemingly totally different winch.

Thanks for that tip billmaca. I just checked out its price and availability. Shouldn\'t be that hard to get a copy here downunder.
Most of the books on my wishlist are VERY expensive. Good to see one I can afford.
