Lords to grill Gove on No Deal preparations

The House of Lords EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee will tomorrow question Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Michael Gove MP on his Department’s preparations for a ‘no deal’ Brexit.

The Sub-Committee took evidence from the Secretary of State in October 2018, when they scrutinised the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ plans for a ‘no deal’ Brexit.
With just over a week to go until the UK could be leaving the EU without a deal, the Committee will ask the Secretary of State how prepared his Department is for that eventuality and will discuss areas including: exporting animals and animal products, fishing quotas and trade in waste.
The Committee will begin taking evidence at 9.45am in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords.
A number of issues are likely to be raised and the EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee is expected to want to be informed on:
    • Whether exports of animals and animal products from the UK to the EU will be able to take place from ‘day one’ (this can only happen if the UK is be listed as an ‘approved third country’ by the EU).
    • The impact on UK ports and UK roads of animal exporters not being able to use the Dover-Calais route (when the UK leaves the EU, these exports will need to go through a Border Inspection Post, which Calais does not have).
    • Whether the new IT systems that will be needed to manage imports and exports are ready to use.
    • When fishing quotas (and access to UK waters) for the remainder of 2019 will be agreed.
    • What additional storage capacity may be needed if waste exports are held up because of delays at ports, and whether this could result in additional waste going to landfill.

Trade and tariff data with interactive tool

    https://fiskerforum.com/trade-and-ta...eractive-tool/

The new interactive tool gives businesses easy access to UK seafood trade and tariff data for the first time

An online system allowing businesses easy access seafood trade and tariff data has been launched to assist seafood importers and exporters in the UK.

The Seafish Trade and Tariff Tool has been developed by Seafish, the public body that supports the £10bn UK seafood industry, to help seafood businesses through Brexit and beyond.
Designed to be user friendly and interactive, the tool allows users to access historical trade data from 2010 to 2018 and current UK tariff data, giving them an overview of seafood markets. The tool will allow users to drill down into trade by product and country, giving businesses a better understanding of the UK seafood market as the UK prepares to leave the EU.
The tool contains seafood trade data for human consumption only and is based on HMRC data. The data includes weight, value and country by year and can be displayed year by year, making comparisons easy and allowing businesses to identify trends and opportunities. It has been built using business intelligence and analytics software Tableau.
It was launched at the Scottish Seafood Summit in Aberdeen by Arina Motova, Interim Chief Economist.
‘Until now, businesses have had to get in touch with us or HMRC to ask us to provide this information, which can take time and businesses had to create their own visuals to analyse that data,’ Arina Motova said.
‘Having the data just a few clicks away within a self-service tool means businesses can access whatever information they want in their own time and their own way – from enquiries as specific as the volume and value of import and tariff on frozen warm water shrimp imported to UK from India, for example, to obtaining a more general background picture on export and markets they might be considering entering.’
‘We’ve consulted with industry during the development of the Seafish Trade and Tariff Tool to ensure it’s informative without being too complicated to use. Seafish of course will continue to provide analysis on complex data to the industry when requested.’
The Seafish Trade and Tariff Tool is available at www.seafish.org/t4

Federations back government to leave CFP

    https://fiskerforum.com/federations-...-to-leave-cfp/

Speaking at a reception held jointly in Parliament today by the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations and the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, DEFRA minister Robert Goodwill stated that ‘leaving the EU is a golden opportunity.’

The reception was opened by NFFO chief executive Barrie Deas, making plain the position of the two federations in backing the UK government to leave the Common Fisheries Policy.
‘We are delighted that the future opportunities for the UK fishing industry has become a core focus of Brexit, and the Government have made many significant promises that we will be a truly independent coastal state. But we are disappointed at the current delay in exiting the Common Fisheries Policy, and the prospect of an even longer delay if the Government and Parliament fail to agree a way forward,’ he said.
‘Leaving the EU means regaining control of our waters for the first time in 40 years. Our fishermen are absolutely right to look forward to life after the common fisheries policy,’ DEFRA minister Robert Goodwill said, commenting that he sees this as ‘a golden opportunity to secure a fairer share of fish for our fishermen and set out a sustainable future for our fisheries.’
Also speaking that the reception, shadow fisheries minister Luke Pollard gave the industry his backing and called for the Fisheries Bill to be completed in Parliament.
‘The sea of opportunity is just over the horizon and within our grasp,’ said SFF chief executive Bertie Armstrong, closing the meeting.
‘Outside the CFP, the British fishing industry will be a global leader. Our members will produce world-class, sustainable seafood from our rich UK waters. This will bring prosperity to coastal communities and secure a long term future for the industry in all parts of the UK.’

Many years ago, @Conservatives resident clown @oletwinofficial had a ‘great’ idea. He called it the poll tax. It ended in rioting. His latest ‘good idea’ is that terrorist-appeasing, Jew-hating communist Corbyn is someone ‘we can do business with on Brexit’. ‘Nuff said.

It would cost the taxpayer £36 billion if our EU membership was extended for up to two years.

Why does the Cooper- Letwin Bill not have a Money Resolution since it proposes spending so much?
