Today, I signed the pledge, presented to all Scottish MPs, by the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, confirming my position AGAINST:
    - a future fisheries arrangement that would extend our membership of the CFP beyond Dec 2020
    - any arrangement that would take us back into the CFP after that date
    - any arrangement that prevents the UK from taking its rightful place as an independent coastal state, exercising complete control and sovereignty over its own waters.

Today, my Scottish Conservative Colleagues and I received this letter from the Prime Minister, in response to our concerns regarding the future fisheries agreement.

The Prime Minister’s position on fisheries is unequivocal - as she continues to commit; here in writing and repeatedly at the despatch box.

    - We are LEAVING the CFP.
    - We WILL be an independent coastal state.
    - There will be no link between EU access to our waters and UK access to EU markets.

There is still work to be done as we move towards a future fisheries agreement. The fishing nations of the EU clearly wish to avoid losing their unfairly advantageous share of fish in UK waters (>60%). However, at the end of the day, the UK WILL be an independent coastal state. France, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark and others will NOT.

I will continue to do what I have always done and fight for the interests of the fisheries sector in my constituency and across the UK.

There are those who have NEVER wanted there to be a successful withdrawal agreement and will talk it down in any case.

The SNP in particular, would like nothing more than for us to crash out without a deal - just so they can use that as a tenuous excuse for another independence referendum.

The SNP seem to actively desire a bad deal, not just for Scottish fishermen but also for Scottish farmers - only so they can say it was all Westminster’s fault - rather than work with the UK Government to ensure the best deal for our fishermen.

The SNP’s policy - which they cannot deny - is to be IN the EU and therefore IN the CFP.

I am glad to announce that, earlier today, I received formal notification that I will be a member of the House of Commons Fisheries Bill Committee.

Regardless of what happens with the Withdrawal Agreement, the UK WILL leave the CFP and become an independent coastal state.

As we will no longer be bound by the CFP, the Fisheries Bill is a critical piece of legislation that will dictate how UK Fisheries are managed.
