THE Crown Estate’s has launched its 2013 Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards, in a bid to recognise ‘The Best of The Best’ in Scotland’s marine aquaculture industry.

The call for entry is now open and electronic copies of the entry forms can be found on the dedicated event website or on The Crown Estate website

The estate has dropped the ‘Best Site’ awards as they feel these no longer really reflect adequately the more strategic way the industry is developing in its farming practices. However, to maintain the important insights the judging panel obtained from the contact and communication in visiting sites, they will include site visits/interviews now with short-listed candidates in the ‘Farm Manager’ category, to reflect the pivotal role of this position in the industry and to give the candidates the opportunity to discuss their work and achievements with the panel.

At the same time they have introduced ‘Seafood Product’ and ‘Community Initiative’ awards to acknowledge the wider scope of industry engagement and business. The ‘Aquaculture Ambassador’ award has changed to ‘Outstanding Contribution’ to accommodate a wider scope of individuals and the contributions they may make to this industry, whether on a public or more localised company platform and scale.

The estate is encouraging Scotland’s aquaculturalists to take the opportunity to participate, as the Awards are there not only to recognise excellence but also to showcase these achievements to as wide an audience as possible. Please remember that you can enter as many categories as you like, and if you wish, also enter one achievement/product/development in more than one category too if you feel it qualifies under the criteria. The entry process is designed to be as simple as possible to complete, bearing in mind that it is not about expensive presentation, but rather providing a clear and concise description and explanation of your entry subject. If you need any guidance with the completion of your application(s) please contact Emma Broll using the information below.

The closing date for entries is March 11 and entries should be submitted to">, tel: 0131 557 5767.

The Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner will take place at Prestonfield Hotel, Edinburgh on June 13 and promises to be one of the highlights of the industry’s calendar so book your table/tickets soon to avoid disappointment. These prestigious Awards are run in association with a number of high profile sponsors and their continuing involvement is paramount to the success of the Awards.
