Default Another sad loss just before Christmas.

The Mevagissey based gill/ring netter Heather Anne sadly sank in Gerrans Bay last night with the sad loss of one of her crew.
The Skipper & crewman were rescued from the water by another Mevagissey boat, Lauren Kate & the crewman was later airlifted to Treliske hospital in Truro but later died. R.I.P.

Always seems to be a tragedy somewhere at this time of year

Fisherman dies after boat sinks off Cornwall coast

A fisherman has died in hospital after the boat he was on sank off the coast of south Cornwall.

The two crew members onboard the 35ft (10.6m) vessel, the Heather Anne, were rescued from the water in Gerrans Bay, on Tuesday at about 22:15 GMT.

One man, from Mevagissey, was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital and died overnight, coastguards said.

The other man is recovering. Coastguards said they were unsure what caused the boat to sink.

The fishing vessel, the Lauren Kate, rescued both men from the bay.

The second man was taken ashore to Mevagissey by lifeboat and transferred to an ambulance.

A coastguard spokeswoman said: "There is no indications as to why the fishing vessel sank, but we hope to gather more information on what happened later today."

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is looking into the incident.

sincere condolences to the family and friends on a tragic loss, unfortunately this is the time of year when people feel a stronger need to take risks to earn that extra penny for christmas, always striving to make it through the darkest time of year when cash flow gets its lowest.such a sad day for all concerned but i wonder if the quota system is still ultimately to blame for such accidents happening.at a time when money is needed more it appears we get less to work with just rising prices.
