Exclamation Explorer Restorers Wanted - Leith

    Hello All,

Work to preserve and restore the SS Explorer in Leith has re-started with drop-in sessions happening on Saturdays at 11am. We're looking for volunteers to help us revive Explorer. Any old crewmembers would be welcome additions to our team, as would current engineers, sparkies or similar.

No experience is necessary though, spare time and enthusiasm on their own are useful and hugely valuable.

In addition to the volunteers we need, if anyone has any plans, pictures, memorabilia, or other related items the society would be happy to hear from you!

Explorer is part of the National Historic Ships Register and the last of the sea-going trawlers. She was launched in 1955, the last ship built by Alexander Hall & Co. Ltd. of Aberdeen, and her role was to investigate fish breeding and feeding grounds so as to establish fishing levels and species types for the British market.

After finishing her work she was laid up and has since escaped the breaker's torch on multiple occasions. The SS Explorer Preservation Society was set up to preserve the historic vessel and she was moved to Leith having been denied a berth in Aberdeen.

Work has continued on her over the years and now the Society has a Facebook page to allow easier communication and publicity (click here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/SS-Exp...54464821267370) plus updated email contact address (ssexplorer@ymail.com).

So, if you'd like to get involved, please email the Society of visit the Facebook page (remember to 'like' it!). If you know anyone who'd like to be involved, please relay the message.

    Kind Regards,

    Hello again all,

Work is continuing to preserve the Explorer. We now have a Twitter account (@SS_Explorer), a new Facebook Group (http://www.facebook.com/groups/ss.explorer/) and a brand new website (www.ss-explorer.com).

We're posting as many updates as we can on what's being done and we are still on the lookout for new volunteers, former crew, any stories, artifacts or equipment relating to the ship.

If you'd like to help out, please get in touch (ssexplorer@ymail.com) or join up as a member!

    Many thanks,
