New legislation opens the way to build new trawler, according to Faroese fishing company.

Klaksvík fishing company JFK has placed an order for a new trawler. According to the company’s managing director Hanus Hansen, the new Faroese legislative framework put in place by the recently elected government, which brings in a number of changes including ending quota auctions, is what has made it possible for the order to be confirmed.

The new vessel is a Skipsteknisk design and will be built at a Turkish shipyard with a delivery date in mid-2022.

It will replace the existing trawler Gadus KG-180, which was built in 1987 and was acquired by JFK in 2010.

The new Gadus will be an 86 metre, 18 metre beam factory vessel with a 1400 tonne fishroom capacity and with fishmeal and fish oil production on board.
The contract price is a reported DKK400 million.
