A fisherman has been rescued after his boat struck a buoy and sank off the coast of the Isle of Wight.

A coastguard helicopter and two RNLI lifeboats were scrambled to the south Ryde middle buoy at midnight.

The boat Sea Raider had sunk and the lone 28-year-old sailor was taken to St Mary's hospital on the island suffering from the affects of the cold.

Two lifeboats from Cowes, and Fareham and Gosport, helped in the rescue and recovered debris from the scene.
