The latest issue of app-based fishing news and technology magazine Hook & Net has been published, containing an extensive review of new Norwegian factory vessel Ramoen.

The 75 metre, Rolls-Royce designed Ramoen was built at the Astilleros Armon shipyard in Spain and delivered to owners Ramoen AS at Vartdal in western Norway at the beginning of November, followed by a four-day delivery trip from the yard at Gijon in northern Spain.

This is the sixth vessel to carry the Ramoen name for the company run by the Vartdal and Eggesbø families. There is a great deal of Rolls-Royce in this new trawler, which is powered by a 3600kW Bergen Diesel, one of the first of the new generation of these engines, plus it has the option of a 1000kW boost for fishing in heavy weather or when additional power is needed.

The trawler is designed for efficient operation in every way, with fishmeal and oil production on board to handle factory waste, and the production deck is designed to produce primarily shatterpacked fillets for the UK fish & chip sector. The sophisticated factory deck is the first of its kind with a Valka X-ray portioning machine at the centre of the on-board factory, which is expected to improve yields and make production at sea more efficient.

H&N’s November issue includes interviews with skipper Egil Skarbøvik, Ramoen CEO Per Magne Eggesbø, with co-owner and project manager Atle Vartdal and Monrad Hide of Rolls-Royce’s design division.
