Prince Charles was in Bridlington last week where he met with members of the fishing industry.

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) was invited in recognition of their ongoing support of the Holderness Coast Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG), funded through Axis 4 of the European Fisheries Fund (EFF). The event was part of a wider visit to Yorkshire by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

During the visit, MMO board member Jane Ryder and Catherine Murphy, EFF Delivery and Control Manager for England were presented to His Royal Highness.

Catherine said: "A lot of hard work has gone in to setting up and managing the FLAGs and it was a nice acknowledgement of this hard work that the Holderness FLAG was included in the royal visit.

"The Prince asked me about European funding and said he was pleased that the MMO were committed to making the funding available to fishermen around the coast. We also had the opportunity to talk about some of the pressing issues faced by the fisheries sector including funding and discards and that he said he was pleased that the MMO were so committed to supporting the sector and the FLAG.

Prince Charles also saw projects supported by the FLAG including a restored Bridlington fishing coble and research vessel the Huntress.

Before he visited his new grandson the Prince met the public in Bridlington who were keen to congratulate him on being a grandfather.
