THE owners and master of the Georgia Dawn (INS140) were, on June 26, ordered to pay over 9,500 by Brighton Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to landing scallops below the minimum landing size.
The court heard how in October 2012 the vessel was inspected by marine enforcement officers from the Marine Management Organisation upon landing into Shoreham. They found 1.4 metric tonnes (almost 12% of the total catch) of scallops retained on board that were caught in Area VIId and were below the minimum landing size of 110 mm.

The owners Ormonde Fishing Ltd of Gallow Hill, Rosshire, Scotland were ordered to pay a total of 9,042. This was:

a 2,000 fine for landing scallops below the minimum size

a 2,158 additional fine for the value of the catch

4,764 legal and investigation costs

120 victim surcharge.

The master David Patience of Peterhead was fined 500 plus a 50 victim surcharge.
