Bomb disposal experts have been called to a fishing boat that brought up a WWII bomb in its nets off East Sussex.

The boat, called Joanna C, is off Beachy Head roughly two miles (1.2km) south east of Sovereign Harbour.

Emergency services said the 500lb bomb's detonator was intact. The two-man crew has been told by the coastguard to anchor offshore.

They will keep the device wet while a bomb disposal team makes its way from Portsmouth to Eastbourne.

In February 2011, a 20ft-long bomb was discovered floating five miles off Beachy Head by a fisherman. It was recovered by bomb disposal experts.
