A fisherman suffered serious chest injuries when he fell onto a stanchion while at sea, fire crews said.

The man was taken to Nobles hospital following the incident on a fishing vessel seven miles from Peel on Saturday.

An RAF Sea King helicopter was scrambled but due to the nature of the man's injuries he could not be winched.

The fishing vessel was brought to Peel breakwater where the man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Station Officer Nigel Fraser said: "The man had suffered serious chest injuries and could not be winched to safety."
