Dennis has a request for information

I wonder if you could help me in finding out what happened to a boat my father got built in 1968.The boat was called Marcalina and was built by J N Millars of St Monance. She was 60ft ringer/trawler powered by a 240hp Kelvin engine. My father only had her for three years then she left Scalpay and went to the Clyde I think. She came back to Scalpay and was named the Jasper 11 still with same reg number -SY460,from there she was sold to Stornoway , after that I believe she ended up in Helvick, Co Waterford,Ireland.I think she was registered SO 880 up until 2000.That is all I can tell you,any further info would be much appreciated.

Can any of our members help??

Thanks in advance

You could try a letter or telephone call to:-
Michael Donnellan
Registrar of Shipping
Customs & Excise
Custom House
The Quay

Tel: 071 915 6761
Fax: 071 916 9275

(Depends where you are calling from, may need the international code 00353 71 915 6761)

Note for other readers. This Customs Offices suffered two fire bomb attacks during the 'troubles' and all the early registers were lost. The Fishing Boat registers were reconstructed but only for the boats on the go at the time. Think that was in the 1980's.

I was in Helvick last week and did not see any 60 footer. There was a wreck in the harbour but it looked like a small vessel.

another boat that had a fair career in burtonport. was re-named tully island so880 when she was eventually put on the irish register. somebody must have changed it back to her original name. she could tow like the clappers and a great sea boat.
