Can anyone suggest a soft substance that could be used to make tyres for hanging over the side of model fishing boats?
The ones you can buy are not the size I want and look very plastic.
Many thanks

How about the grommets that are used for protecting cables in a metal socket box?

make a circular blank fron ply wood amd then paint latex rubber over it, in layers..........long process, but they'll do the job the real things are supposed to.
then paint them black.
neil.

I used an old black ribbed water hose. Cut rings to correct width with very fine sharp saw. Fitted rings onto dowel rod and fixed in power drill chuck. Turned at slow speed and cut tread. Removed from dowel and gave good coat of black paint (hides the fabric cords where cut). They look very realistic!

I have been buying tyres from the Model Dockyard. Have a look at their site

OK these are all outside of the UK but 1/24th scale model car or truck tyres should be fine

would the 2" rubber puddings we use for the wiredoubles on hard ground gear do the trick?. the ones with the 14mm centre might suit better.
