Description: This model is loosely based on a square fishing boat that was commonly referred to as the OXO CUBE ! The original vessel NORTHERN LIGHTS (LT 1004) was built in 1998 by Richards Ironworks of Great Yarmouth,Norfolk for T. Taylor of Aberdeen. ( 9-98m ) ( Launched 28-3-1998 ) She was the biggest , tonnage wise , under 10m registered length boat ever built . Terry Taylor ( had the Maureen June then Dorothy Gray and Glen Rose stern trawlers ) had her built as there was some loophole in the regulations up at Faroes that you could catch as much as you liked but had to be under 10m reg length. Not a success and had her wheelhouse stripped off and all the engines/gearboxes/props/rudders removed by MacDuff shipyard before the Good Design towed her to Shetland to be used as a feed barge. She was then scrapped in Shetland later. She had been used as a barge at salmon farm's for a few years. She sank in a gale and was then salvaged then cut up. So as for the model she measures 16" x 9" (17" incl bulbous bows) 12" high and has a single 3 bladed 30mm plastic prop fitted with rudder, a small motor is also fitted but no other electrics, there is plenty space in each sponson for ballast and batteries. I have used this before and is a very manouvarable (I can't spell !) boat and although may appear ugly she is one of a kind !! The deck crane is missing, and there is some good detailing inside the wheelhouse.
